The Kennewick Man Case | Court Documents | Communications with the CourtFederal Defendants' Notice to Court of Pipe Break at Burke MuseumLois J. Schiffer Allison Rumsey Kristine Olson FOR THE DISTRICT OF OREGON ROBSON BONNICHES, et al., Plaintiffs v. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, et al., Defendants Federal Defendants' Notice to Court of Pipe Break at Burke MuseumEarly in the morning of May 18, 2000 a pipe broke at the Burke Museum The Kennewick human remains were not affected by the leak that caused some flooding in the Burke Museum collections storage area. The location where the Kennewick remains are stored did not get wet and climate monitoring instruments in the storage room did not indicate any alteration in the room's microclimate that would have adversely affected the remains. A malfunction in the air-conditioning system apparently caused the pipe to freeze. Fortunately, Dr. Michael Trimble, Curator, Dr. Nancy Odegaard, Conservator, Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona, Dr. Vicki Cassman, Conservator and Assistant Professor, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Rhonda Lueck, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Chris Pulliam, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers were on site to complete their regular record keeping for the human remains and were able to check directly the human remains following the pipe break and flooding. Dated this 22 day of May, 2000. Respectfully submitted, Lois J. Schiffer (signed) by ts Kristine Olson Return to Communications with the Court |
